1. Abstract

This guide is intended to help customers setup getting started with the DA14695 Bluetooth® module Development Kit - Pro (DA14695MOD ProDK) from Renesas. The DA14695MOD is the:

  • Only Bluetooth® LE module in the market with built-in USB Charger which is ideal for rechargeable end-product applications.

  • Only Bluetooth® LE module in the market with display driver which is ideal for wearable applications or products with displays (eg connected medical, PoS Readers, etc).

4. Prerequisites

To start evaluation or project development on Renesas DA14695 product sets – the following tools are recommended.

  • Hardware tools:

    • Computational workstation (e.g. PC or Laptop)

      • 64-bit processor with 1 GHz processing speed

      • 1 GB RAM

      • 2 GB free disk space

    • DA1469x main board (DA14695MOD-00DEVKT-P) as a Motherboard.

    • DA14695MOD daughter board (DA14695MOD-00F1DB-P).

    • USB cable to power the Pro Development kit and perform on-board debugging

  • Software tools:

    • Terminal software such as RealTerm, Putty or Tera Term. This document uses Tera Term for its examples.

    • SmartSnippets™ Studio 2.0.20 or later which is available for Windows OS, Linux OS and macOS , see Section Section 8.

    • Software Development Kit (SDK)

    • Bluetooth® LE explorer application because working with Bluetooth® requires access to some type of generic GATT explorer tool that supports features such as:

      • Scanning for Bluetooth® LE devices

      • Establishing Bluetooth® connection with a specific device

      • Discovering and interacting with GATT services

There are numerous options when it comes to GATT explorer tools. Until recently, these tools have mostly been supported via smartphone apps or through specific hardware connected to a PC. Recently, the Chrome Browser on Windows 10 and MAC books offer GATT exploration using the native Bluetooth® hardware on those platforms. Below is a subset of options:
